This William is the most lilely father of Claude Jamineau Carter, rector at Henny, Essex.

The family was known to be connected with trade and possibly the merchant navy. In Times of London, Monday October 24th 1803 ‎(number 5848)‎ there is an account of receipts and disbursements frm the Marine Society Office. The list of subscriptions received shows 2s 2d from a William Carter.

List of boys educated at Bury St. Edmunds King Edward 6th free grammar school 1550-1900:
45. Carter William. Son of William Carter of Ballingdon, Essex. Adm, to Bury school Jan 1750. Foreigner. Brother of Jonathan Carter, rector of Flempton.

‎(Is this admission of this William to the school - he would have been 13 years old, his brother Jonathan would have been too young, so does the reference to the brother mean the father’s brother and not the child’s brother?)‎

Also on list of foreigners admitted in 1750: William son of William Carter Esq of Ballington, Essex, 23 Jan 1750.

Why do they say he is a foreigner? Was it because Frances was of French decent.
